Our 2026 survey of African marketing professionals found that measurement skills carry the largest salary premium in every market, that remote employment concentrates heavily in Lagos, Nairobi and Cape Town, and that the biggest self-reported skill gap is analytics rather than AI.
TL;DR
- Measurement skills carry the largest salary premium in every market surveyed.
- Remote employment by foreign companies is concentrated in three cities.
- The largest reported skill gap is analytics, not AI.
Why we run this survey
There is no authoritative dataset on what African digital marketers earn, what they can do, or what employers cannot find. That absence is a problem for learners choosing what to study, for employers setting budgets, and for universities designing curricula.
So we collect it annually, publish the methodology, and make the raw aggregates available. It is also, candidly, the most effective link-building asset available to us, because nobody else has the data.
The measurement premium
Across every market in the sample, respondents who reported building and owning a reporting stack earned significantly more than peers at the same experience level who did not. The gap widened with seniority rather than closing.
The implication for anyone planning a curriculum is uncomfortable: analytics should come before channels, not after them.
Where the remote work is
Remote employment by foreign companies clusters heavily in three cities. That concentration is not about talent distribution - it tracks with existing professional networks and with employer familiarity.
For talent outside those cities, the practical route is visibility and verification rather than relocation, which is precisely what a verified pool is for.
